Ser Músico em Portugal (1750-1985)
Uma viagem pela história do associativismo musical
Concebida no âmbito do projeto PROFMUS – Ser Músico em Portugal: a condição socioprofissional dos músicos em Lisboa (1750-1985), a exposição “SER MÚSICO EM PORTUGAL (1750 1985)” estará patente no Colégio Almada Negreiros (Sala de Esgrima) entre os dias 27 de Maio e 10 de Julho de 2023, das 10h às 18h.
Trata-se da reposição da exposição apresentada em 2022 no Museu da Música Portuguesa – Casa Verdades de Faria (Monte Estoril), iniciativa inédita e pioneira que tem por base uma seleção de documentos e outras peças de enorme valor e interesse patrimonial, provenientes dos arquivos históricos da Irmandade de Santa Cecília e do Montepio Filarmónico, ambos localizados na Basílica dos Mártires, e do Arquivo Histórico do Sindicato dos Músicos, depositado no Museu da Música Portuguesa.
Esta exposição permite tomar contacto com a extraordinária riqueza documental conservada nestes acervos, fonte essencial para a história da vida musical em Portugal entre o final do Antigo Regime, quando ocorre um considerável crescimento do associativismo profissional dos músicos portugueses, até à integração de Portugal na então CEE (1985), e ao consequente início da livre circulação dos profissionais da música no mercado de trabalho europeu.
Documentar a forma como as associações e os músicos se organizaram profissionalmente ao longo deste largo período, visa estimular novos olhares sobre as condições da atividade musical quotidiana em Portugal, um património imaterial histórico que importa preservar e estudar.
A exposição “Ser Músico em Portugal (1750-1985)” tem produção e curadoria dos investigadores do INET-md, Cristina Fernandes, Manuel Deniz Silva e Tiago Manuel da Hora e é dedicada à memória do musicólogo Francesco Esposito (1964-2020).

Created within the scope of the research PROFMUS – To be a Musician in Portugal: the socio-professional condition of musicians in Lisbon (1750-1985), the exhibition “TO BE A MUSICIAN IN PORTUGAL (1750 1985)” can be visited at Colégio Almada Negreiros (Fencing Room) between May 27th and July 10th, 2023, from 10 am to 6 pm.
Presented for the first time in 2022 at the Museu da Música Portuguesa – Casa Verdades de Faria (Monte Estoril), it is a second edition of a pioneering initiative based on a selection of documents and other pieces of considerable value and heritage interest from the historical archives of the Irmandade de Santa Cecília and of the Montepio Filarmónico, both located in the Basílica dos Mártires, and from the historical archive of the Musicians’ Union, housed in the Museu da Música Portuguesa.
This exhibition allows the public to get in touch with the extraordinary documental wealth kept in these collections, which are an essential source for the history of musical life in Portugal between the end of the Ancien Régime, when there is a growth in the musical associativism of Portuguese musicians, until the integration of Portugal in the EEC (1985), and the consequent beginning of the free circulation of music professionals in the European labour market.
Documenting the way in which associations and musicians organized themselves professionally over this long period, aims to stimulate new insights into the conditions of everyday musical activity in Portugal, a rich historical and immaterial heritage that must be preserved and studied.
The exhibition “To be a Musician in Portugal (1750-1985)” was produced and curated by the researchers Cristina Fernandes, Manuel Deniz Silva and Tiago Hora and is dedicated to the memory of the musicologist Francesco Esposito (1964-2020).
