TOSC@ Lisboa 2023 – 5th Transnational Opera Studies Conference
Nos próximos dias 6 a 8 de julho, terá lugar no Colégio Almada Negreiros o 5ª Congresso Transnacional de Estudos de Ópera (TOSC@lisboa.2023). Com a participação de mais de 70 especialistas de diferentes gerações e origens geográficas, este colóquio reúne a excelência e a ousadia da investigação contemporânea sobre ópera e teatro musical.
O evento é organizado pelo CESEM, que há vinte e cinco anos se dedica ao estudo da música e das suas relações com as outras artes, com a cultura e com a sociedade, tendo a ópera (nas suas dimensões histórica, social, estética e mediática) sido sempre um tema de investigação com particular destaque.
Na ocasião do 100º aniversário do nascimento da soprano Maria Callas e dos 65 anos da sua passagem por Lisboa, o colóquio dá particular visibilidade à reflexão sobre a sua carreira, prática performativa e reapropriação da sua figura e legado. Também estarão em foco as questões da ópera no mundo pós-pandémico, especialmente o modo como os meios digitais estão a transformar as formas de compor, interpretar e viver a ópera no século XXI, e as relações entre as musicologias portuguesa e brasileira, ou mais amplamente à “ópera para além do Ocidente”.

The 5h Transnational Opera Studies Conference (TOSC@lisboa.2023) will be held at Colégio Almada Negreiros on 6-8 July. With over 70 experts from different generations and geographical backgrounds, this conference brings together the excellence and boldness of contemporary research on opera and musical theatre.
The event is organized by CESEM, which for twenty-five years has been dedicated to the study of music and its relations with the other arts, with culture and with society, and where opera (in its historical, social, aesthetic and media dimensions) has always been a research focus of particular prominence.
On the occasion of soprano Maria Callas’s 100th birth anniversary and the 65th anniversary of her performance in Lisbon, the conference will give particular visibility to reflection on her career, performance practice and the re-appropriation of her figure and legacy. The event will also explore post-pandemic opera issues, especially the way in which digital media are transforming the ways of composing, interpreting and experiencing opera in the 21st century. Finally, it will examine the connections between Portuguese and Brazilian musicologies and, more broadly, “opera beyond the West”.
