“BlackBox – Arts&Cognition: resultados do projecto e linhas futuras para o Lab”
A próxima sessão do Seminário Permanente do GI Performance & Cognição do ICNOVA vai ser no dia 23 de janeiro, às 16 horas, no auditório 3 da NOVA FCSH (Av. de Berna).
Neste seminário irão ser apresentados os fundamentos, as motivações, os resultados mais relevantes e as portas que pretendemos abrir para futuros caminhos de investigação no âmbito do Laboratório de investigação em Artes Performativas e Cognição.
Ao longo dos últimos 5 anos e meio, uma equipa de 11 investigadores procurou entender os processos criativos e cognitivos subjacentes aos trabalhos de composição de 3 coreógrafos em Portugal: João Fiadeiro, Rui Lopes Graça e Sylvia Rijmer.
Através de metodologias diversas e muita tecnologia envolvida (desde motion tracking à anotação de vídeo, passando por sensores bio-médicos, sensores de profundidade, realidade virtual, animação infográfica, fotografia estereoscópica e filmagens em 360º), criámos as melhores visualizações digitais possíveis para “traduzir” processos profundamente complexos e subjectivos da criatividade humana, deixando totalmente de lado a tentação de representar a experiência corporalizada e única dos encontros vibrantes entre coreógrafos, performers e audiências.

Carla Fernandes Ph.D in Cognitive Linguistics. Currently working as Principal Investigator and Invited Professor at FCSH – Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Co-founder with Professor Paulo Filipe Monteiro of the ICNOVA Research Group on Performance&Cognition.
Awarded a European Research Council grant for her interdisciplinary project “BlackBox – A collaborative platform to document performance composition: from conceptual structures in the backstage to customizable visualizations in the front-end”, running at FCSH-UNL from 2014 to 2019 under her direction.
At present her research focus is in the intersection of Arts&Cognition, Multimodal Communication, New Media and the Performing Arts (from cognitive and ethnographic perspectives). Particular interests include the complexity of the human mind, human non-verbal behavior in creativity settings, gesture studies, and the analysis of multimodal corpora and their relevance for the creation of digital “archives of processes”, as alternative ways to document the more intangible art forms such as contemporary dance.
Research Partner in other EU-funded projects at the crossings of Arts&Science and digital media.
Principal Investigator of the FCT-funded TKB project in Portugal (A Transmedia Knowledge-Base for contemporary dance) with international partners from the AHK Amsterdam, The Forsythe Foundation, and Coventry University from 2009 to 2013.
Author of book chapters and papers in international journals and conferences in the fields of Multimodal Communication, Performance Studies, Digital Media and Intangible Heritage.
