The Department of Languages, Cultures and Modern Literatures (DLCLM) was created in 2004, joining the former Departments of German Studies, Anglo-Portuguese Studies and Romanesque Studies, with a long history in teaching and scientific research at NOVA FCSH.

Structured according to the Bologna process and relying on its research units, DLCLM offers a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree and a doctorate in Languages, Literatures and Cultures (German, Spanish, French and English), Translation courses (bachelor’s degree and master’s degree), Initial Teacher Training in the 3rd cycle of Basic and Secondary Education, and Didactics  of English (Master), as well as free courses and continuing training courses.

DLCLM has numerous exchange programmes with European and non-European universities, it participates in the Erasmus Mundus “Crossways  in Cultural  Narratives” master’s subsidised by the European Commission, it promotes vocational internships through protocols with public and private entities, including in the area of translation, and also offers scholarships and research opportunities, through the research units associated with it.
