The emergence of new issues related to the sustainability of cities, the urban environment and spatial planning has led to the need for specializts with specific training in the area of Sustainable Urbanism, Urban Environments and Spatial Planning.

This masters aims to provide students with the concepts and tools necessary for the promotion and assessment of urban and territorial sustainability, as well as equipping students with innovative skills for practice and research in the areas of urbanism and spatial planning.

Objectives

The emergence of new issues related to the sustainability of cities, the urban environment and spatial planning has led to the need for specializts with specific training in the area of Sustainable Urbanism, Urban Environments and Spatial Planning.

This masters aims to provide students with the concepts and tools necessary for the promotion and assessment of urban and territorial sustainability, as well as equipping students with innovative skills for practice and research in the areas of urbanism and spatial planning.

The course aims to:

  • Combine theoretical concepts and tools in a perspective of sustainable intervention in urban territories.
  • Develop the capacity for data collection and processing using the most recent technologies (GIS, Remote Sensing, CAD, among others, to support the preparation of formal planning documents - graphic part).
  • Develop skills in territorial diagnosis, urban auditing and the formulation of intervention strategies in a sustainable perspective.
  • Develop and apply innovative and effective methods and techniques for the planning and sustainable management of urban territories.
  • Develop and apply monitoring and evaluation processes for projects, programmes and plans.

Curricular structure

Duration: 2 years / 4 semesters

Total Credits: 120 ECTS (78 in curricular units + 42 in the non-taught component).

Of the 78 credits in curricular units, students must complete 72 credits in compulsory course units and 6 credits in optional course units.

Modalities of non-taught component: Dissertation, Project Work or Practical Work Experience with Report

In the 3rd semester, integrated in the Sustainable Urbanism and Spatial Planning Project, a workshop will be held jointly with the Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya in Barcelona.

The Master’s degree corresponds to Level 7 of the NQF and EQF - National Qualifications Framework/European Qualifications Framework.
