Presentation

The Department of Geography and Regional Planning (DGPR) started its activity in 1980, at the initiative of Professor Raquel Soeiro de Brito, with the creation of the first degree in Portugal in which Geography and Planning were associated.

It had its first graduates in 1984 and the first masters in Territory Management in 1992.

DGPR is a national reference in the areas of Geography, Planning and Spatial Planning, Environment, Geographic Information Systems and Remote Detection. It characterizes us the scientific rigor and the proximity to those who seek and choose us.

In the last 30 years, more than a thousand graduates and almost two hundred masters  and doctors who work in various public and private bodies, in Portugal and abroad, including central, regional and local administration services, companies, research centres and teaching (universities and schools of the primary and secondary education) have been formed in the DGPR.
