Presentation

The Artistic Studies Autonomous Section of NOVA FCSH, created in 2024, encompasses a range of programs across different study cycles, that the Faculty has been offering – namely the PhD program in Artistic Studies – Art and Mediations; the Master’s programs in Performing Arts, Musical Arts, Aesthetics and Artistic Studies, and Contemporary Myths; as well as Postgraduate programs in Arts of Writing, Visual Studies, and Music in Early Childhood.

In line with NOVA FCSH’s strategic plan, and adopting a transdisciplinary approach, the Artistic Studies Autonomous Section promotes, through the arts, articulation and collaboration between different fields of knowledge, as well as the reinforcement of ties, and mutual pollination, between teaching and research, theory and practice, and academia, society and the city.

In this context and in addition to its educational offer, the Autonomous Section associates an annual public program, structured in partnership with diverse cultural institutions, and which includes activities such as the development of artistic residencies; the organization of conferences, masterclasses and debate cycles; the promotion of creation, experimentation and research projects; or the presentation of concerts and exhibitions.

Operating on both local and national, as well as international levels, the Artistic Studies Autonomous Section aims to contribute to the consolidation of a diverse academic community that engages in dialogue with the broad field of artistic studies.
