access to e-books and scientific papers’ databases
NOVA FCSH grants access to hundredss of ebooks, thousands of cientific papers (in digital format) and referential databases.
How to access:
- Open the NOVA Discovery platform.
- At the NOVA FCSH campus there is access direct to the platform (this can be done with a computer connected to the campus’ wireless network).
- Outside the campus, you can login using the FCSH ID credentials. In order to do so, you just need to configure your browser to use a NOVA FCSH proxy server followed by the introduction of your FCSH ID credentials.
Browser configuration:
- Chrome
– Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar
– Select Settings
– Click Show advanced settings
– In the Network section, click Change proxy settings
– Click on the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings
– Under Proxy server, click to select the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box
– In the Address box, type: proxy.fcsh.unl.pt
– In the Port box, type: 3128
- Microsoft Edge
– Go to Settings > Internet Options
– Click Connections
– Click LAN Settings
– Check the box for Use a proxy server for your LAN
– Click Advanced
– In the Address box, type: proxy.fcsh.unl.pt
– In the Port box, type: 3128
- Firefox
– Go to the Menu and click on Settings and then General
– Click Network Settings (on the end of the page)
– Click Manual Proxy Settings
– In the Proxy HTTP box type: proxy.fcsh.unl.pt
– In the Port box, type: 3128 FTP and HTTPS
– Check the box ‘ Use this proxy for FTP and HTTPS’
- Safari (Mac)
– Go to System preferences / Network / Ethernet / Advanced
– In the field Web Proxy (HTTP), type: proxy.fcsh.unl.pt. In the field Port, type: 3128
-In the field Secure Web Proxy, type: proxy.fcsh.unl.pt. In the field Port, type: 3128 - When you open the first webpage, you need to type in your FCSH ID credentials. Once this
procedure is complete, whenever you access a scientific database, you will hold the same
download licenses that you would benefit of on campus.
- Example: a20191238546 + password for the inforestudante. Teachers and researchers must type the password of their institutional emails.
From that point on, you will be able to access ebooks and databases with the same access and download permissions you would have at the NOVA FCSH campus.
