Corpos em tensão: Performance, Afetos e Identificação – Conferência Internacional com Goran Petrovic Lotina
O investigador e curador Goran Petrovic Lotina será o keynote speaker da próxima conferência do ciclo Performance, Afectos e Media, organizada por Ana Pais (GI Performance e Cognição, ICNOVA).
A palestra “Bodies in Tension: Performance, Affect, and Identification” [Corpos em tensão: Performance, Afectos e Identificação] propõe uma reflexão sobre a performance enquanto espaço fundamental para negociar as tensões afetivas e (ant)agonísticas que moldam a vida coletiva.
Partindo da teoria do discurso, do pós-marxismo, da psicanálise e dos estudos críticos de performance, Lotina analisa como as performances cívicas, artísticas e quotidianas não apenas refletem os antagonismos sociais e políticos, mas também mobilizam o afeto como uma força geradora de sentido, identificação e solidariedade.
Nesta perspetiva, o afeto é entendido não como emoção privada, mas como uma dinâmica relacional e coletiva — uma energia que circula entre corpos, públicos e espaços, ligando indivíduos a projetos políticos e comunidades sociais. A performance torna assim visíveis e sensíveis as tensões que estruturam as lutas contemporâneas por pertença e significado, abrindo espaço para o questionamento de discursos hegemónicos e para novas formas de envolvimento democrático.

A sua investigação analisa como as práticas performativas contemporâneas podem desafiar as políticas dominantes e revitalizar a democracia, explorando as dimensões corporais, afetivas e conflituais da vida pública.
É autor de Choreographing Agonism: Politics, Strategies, and Performance of the Left (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021) e coeditor de Performing Left Populism (Bloomsbury, 2023).

Abstract:
This lecture explores performance as a crucial site for negotiating the affective and (ant)agonistic tensions that shape collective life. Drawing on discourse theory, post-Marxism, psychoanalysis, and the critical frameworks of performance studies, Goran Petrovic Lotina examines how civic, artistic, and everyday performances not only mirror social and political (ant)agonisms but also mobilize affect as a generative force in the construction of meaning, identification, and solidarity. Here, affect is understood not as a private emotion but as a relational and collective dynamic—an energy circulating between bodies, audiences, and public spaces, binding individuals to political projects, identities, and social groups. In this sense, performance materializes and dramatizes social tensions, rendering visible and sensible the ongoing struggles over meaning, belonging, and the boundaries of democratic community. The lecture invites participants to consider how the embodied and affective dimensions of performance can unsettle established discourses, challenge hegemonic power, and open new possibilities for agonistic engagement and democratic transformation.
Goran Petrovic Lotina is an author, scholar, and curator whose work explores the intersection of performance, politics, and theory. His research examines how contemporary performances can contest dominant politics and reinvigorate democracy, drawing on discourse theory, post-Marxism, psychoanalytic and political theory, and performance studies to analyze the embodied, affective, and conflictual dimensions of public life. He is the author of Choreographing Agonism: Politics, Strategies, and Performance of the Left (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021) and co-editor of Performing Left Populism (Bloomsbury, 2023).
