Interdisciplinary Research Center in Education (EDUNOVA.ISPA)

EDUNOVA.ISPA is a research centre dedicated to the development of interdisciplinary, theoretically grounded and socially relevant research in the field of education. It is a collaborative consortium bringing together researchers from ISPA, NOVA FCT and NOVA FCSH, structured around the motto ‘Building Bridges in Educational Research: From Learners to Systems, from Diversity to Inclusion’.

EDUNOVA.ISPA’s mission is to advance scientific knowledge in education by linking together micro-level perspectives on learning, development and teaching with macro-level analyses of education systems, policies and social change. The centre pursues this mission by integrating fundamental and applied research, promoting conceptual clarity, methodological pluralism and comparative approaches, whilst maintaining a strong commitment to knowledge transfer, the principles of open science and the improvement of evidence-based education.

EDUNOVA. ISPA’s research activities are organised into two scientific domains: Processes and Practices in Education and Ideas, and Social Policies and Changes in Education, which together cover four interlinked thematic areas: learning contexts, processes and literacies; pedagogical knowledge and teachers’ professional cultures; education systems and school organisation; and diversity and inclusion in curricula, teaching practices and assessment.
