Peer Review Process

All the articles submitted to the Essays Section of RCL will be the object of a double blind peer review process. Authors must ensure their anonymity by making sure the submitted file does not contain their name in the properties section of the document.

RCL has a three-step editorial process:

1. Editors’ review

After the successful completion of the online submission process, articles will be read and evaluated by the section editors to ensure if they meet the journal’s editorial policies (originality, thematic pertinence and clarity of the arguments). Articles that do not meet these policies, in part or in their entirety, or that do not ensure the anonymity of their author will be automatically refused. In this case, the author will be notified of the refusal within 1 month of the submission date.

2. Blind peer review

If the article is accepted by the editors, a blind peer review process is initiated. The article will be forwarded, via the journal’s online system, to two reviewers with obvious expertises on the submission’s subject. Reviewers will not know the author’s identity; the author will not know the reviewers identities. Reviewers will pay special attention to the following issues: originality and relevance of the article in relation to previously published work on the same subject; methodological coherence; importance of the article’s contribution to the field of study; clarity of the arguments used; writing style.

Reviewers will write a report about the submission that will contain one of the following recommendations: refusal of the submission; acceptance with changes; acceptance without changes. The final decision about the publication of a submission after the peer review process belongs to the section’s editors. The author will be notified of this decision within 5 months of the submission date. The decision will be accompanied by the reviewers’ reports and comments.

In the reviewers have suggested changes to the submission, the author must re-write the article within 1 month.

3. Article edition

After the peer review, the text will be edited and proofread by the section editors. The author will be notified of any suggestions to modify the text and must reply within 1 week. The author will also be able to approve the galley proofs of the article before it is published.
