EDITORIAL

The first issue of Medievalista, the online journal edited by the Instituto de Estudos Medievais (IEM), came out in 2005, at a time when its Chairman, Professor Luís Krus, who envisaged it, was already terminally ill. Due to his untimely departure, Medievalista appeared both without an editorial and the visibility he would certainly have wished it to have. All things considered, the task of presenting it and stating its goals must now lie with us.

This journal, obviously dedicated to medieval studies, seeks to adopt an interdisciplinary outlook in its approaches to any/all given theme(s) and topic(s). In fact, if one looks at the Portuguese market, there is simply not any single journal committed to a regular and systematic spread of interdisciplinary research on the Middle Ages as practised and nurtured by Professor Krus himself.

But Medievalista also aims at publishing the most recent work carried out by young and established scholars alike. By promoting and encouraging studies on the medieval period, it seeks therefore to contribute to a broader and more open diffusion of academic culture and discourse. All medieval scholars, irrespective of their scope and fields of research, are thus warmly invited to submit papers (abstracts in English and/or French) and book reviews, to report news of coming events, etc. All contributions will be evaluated by the Chairmanship, who shall not be liable for scientific contents.

The journal also intends to publish papers delivered in conferences and seminars organized by the IEM, whilst the edition of issues on any particular theme or topic is also a possibility to be strongly considered. In short, we hope Medievalista may provide some common ground to share and debate ideas, thereby encouraging and enhancing new interdisciplinary insights into all aspects of the Middle Ages
