Libraries

Nova School of Social Sciences and Humanities has two libraries: Mário Sottomayor Cardia Library (BMSC) and the R&D Documentation Centre – Research and PhDs.

The BMSC is located on the first floor of Tower B and makes available to all students literature in the area of Social Sciences and Humanities in several languages, as well as access to international bibliographic databases.

The R&D Documentation Centre, located in the ID Building, brings together the various bibliographic collections several Research Units based in Nova School of Social Sciences and Humanities. Access is limited to researchers and PhD students.

IT Rooms and Wireless Internet

Students at Nova School of Social Sciences and Humanities have two IT rooms with access to computers and the Internet:

Computer Centre Room

Building B2, Level 0
22 computers; spaces suitable for laptops
Printing Service
Hours: weekdays, 9.30 am to 8.00 pm

Internet Room

Tower B, 2nd floor, centre
12 computers
Hours: weekdays from 10.00 am to 10.00 pm

The access to the Internet via a wireless network is guaranteed to all Nova School of Social Sciences and Humanities students. When you turn your computer on the campus of FCSH the fcshunl network should be automatically detected.

Meals

Nova School of Social Sciences and Humanities students have a canteen that serves meals at social prices from €2.40 and access to all SASNOVA units as well as to food services belonging to all other Public Higher Education Institutions in Lisbon.

At Nova School of Social Sciences and Humanities there are two more restaurants. A self-service with more expensive prices and the cafeteria "Sabor a Nova".

 

Student's Union

The Nova School of Social Sciences and Humanities Student's Union has as main objective the representation of the students and the defence of their interests throughout the school year. In addition, it promotes several cultural, recreational, sport and educational activities to which students can join.

Portuguese for Foreigners

Nova School of Social Sciences and Humanities promotes Portuguese language and culture courses for all students of Universidade Nova de Lisboa in several modalities: summer courses, intensive courses, semester courses, as well as private lessons.

Academic System

Nova School of Social Sciences and Humanities students are evaluated based on the work over a semester based on class participation, presentation of written and oral tests and examinations. The result achieved in a subject, whether through continuous assessment or exams, is expressed on a scale from 0 to 20. A pass requires at least 10; however, students who fail may take re-sit examinations.

 

English Curricula

Nova School of Social Sciences and Humanities offers a multidisciplinary curricular programme taught in English. The programme is designed to broaden learning opportunities at Nova School of Social Sciences and Humanities, enhancing existing curricular offerings to international students and Portuguese students fluent in English.
